India’s education system is as diverse as its culture. The multiple boards provide unique approaches to learning, and each of the boards caters to the different needs and aspirations of students.

The CBSE focuses on their structured curriculum, and standardised education with emphasis on science and math that help students planning to appear for competitive exams like JEE and NEET. ICSE is more inclined towards language and arts, with holistic and comprehensive learning. NIOS is known for their flexibility and vocational education ditching the traditional learning patterns. IB emphasises global perspectives, critical thinking and interdisciplinary learning along with providing international recognition. CAIE is known for its global curriculum, this too providing international recognition with emphasis on science and math. State boards are region specific, with the focus on local language. They are known for their emphasis on regional culture's inclusion in the curriculum.

The NEP 2020 is the National Educational Policy of 2020. it’s a comprehensive framework for education in India. The key objectives of this policy are the inclusivity and equality of education by reducing disparities in education. The motto is to universalize education for all regardless of their socio-economic background, location or ability.

The NEP 2020's focus is on providing Quality education and increased emphasis on research and development.

The changes made by NEP 2020 allows the following:

  1. Focuses on multidisciplinary learning: students can now combine subjects that they want to explore from different streams allowing them to develop a diverse skill set, for e.g.. Taking biology and economics. Unlike the rigid stream system that was prevalent in CBSE board prior to NEP 2020.
  2. Flexibility: Allows students to choose careers from various streams, giving the students an opportunity to choose a career from various disciplines.
  3. Vocational Education: enables students to develop industry specific skills which allows for enhancing soft and hard skills needed for the career they pursue unlike the rigorous and expansive knowledge to rote learn like in ICSE prior to NEP 2020.
  4. Reduced Content: The reduction of content allows students to focus on developing skills and interests beyond academics. Unlike in IB Boards
  5. Inclusion of languages: This inclusivity of learning 3 different languages at the primary level, specially emphasising on the regional language helps in cultural understanding. Provides us an opportunity to work or choose careers related to language or international careers.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has transformed India's diverse education boards, aiming to universalize education, reduce disparities, and emphasise quality and research. NEP 2020 introduces multidisciplinary learning, flexible career choices, vocational education, and reduced content overload. It also promotes regional languages and cultural understanding, creating a more inclusive learning environment.
